The Government of Alberta has introduced a single system of assessment complaints for the entire province which commenced in 2010. This means the assessment complaint process has changed as a result of ammendments to the Municipal Government Act, R.S.A. 2000, c. M-26 and Matters Relating to Assessment Complaints Regulation AR 310/09.
Pursuant to section 454 of the Municipal Government Act, the Town of Peace River has passed a bylaw to establish a local and composite assessment review board and enter into regional agreement with four neighboring municipalities. The board is a quasi-judicial board set up to hear assessment complaints.
Section 454.3 of the Municipal Government Act prohibits a member of an assessment review board from participating in a hearing of the board unless that member is qualified to do so by having received and passed the provincially legislated training.
- Monthly meetings (4th Wednesday).
- To provide input to the direction of recreation programs, facilities and services and the Family and Community Support Services Program.
- Term: 3 years.
- Meetings are as required.
- To approve and set conditions for or deny development applications.
- Term: 1 year.
- Meetings are every second month, beginning in January (3rd Wednesday).
- To provide input to the direction of the Peace River Museum, Archives & Mackenzie Centre programs, facility and services.
- Term: 1 year, renewable 3 times.
- Monthly meetings (4th Thursday).
- General management, regulation and control of the municipal library.
- Term: 3 years.
The Town of Peace River Council has authorized the formation of a committee to review the issue of off highway vehicle usage and to make recommendations to Council on regulating such vehicles within town limits. The committee consists of representatives from the Town, RCMP, neighboring municipalities and six members of the public, representing both off highway vehicle isers and non-users.
This quasi-judicial board established pursant to section 627 of the Municipal Government Act to hear appeals with respedct to decisions of the development and subdivision authority.
